EMILY LYONS
On January 28, 1998, Emily Lyons was an R.N. at a women's
health care clinic in Birmingham, Alabama. The next day at 7:33 a.m., entering the clinic,, she was blasted by a bomb
placed at the clinic by a man later identified as Eric Rudolph, an anti-abortion terrorist. Hundreds of nails ripped
through her body. Emily suffered permanent injuries, including loss of sight in one eye, incapacitated hands and
shattered legs, and underwent dozens of surgeries. But she refused to bow to fear, to change her beliefs, or to lose
her sense of humor. "One of my favorite sayings is: 'Not much intimidates you, once you have been blown up,'" says Emily.
Her resolve, strength and grace serve as powerful inspiration.
Emily's saga is one of the stories
in the Words of Choice DVD.
Emily and
her husband, Jeff Lyons, also tell their stories in a book, Life's Been A Blast, which they self-published.
At our DVD launch on Oct. 19, Emily will talk about why and how she began to speak out for choice whenever she could,
despite her travails.
